Crews battle two vacant house fires on Alexander Avenue

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic was called to a structure fire early Saturday morning July 16, 2022 in the 1900 block of Alexander Avenue.

Smoke and flames could be seen several blocks away when emergency crews responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found a vacant one-story house that was fully involved. The fire quickly spread to an unoccupied one-storey house nearby.

Firefighters launched a defensive attack using handlines and brought the fire under control within an hour.

Nearby homes on either side of the fire were evacuated, and one of the homes closest to the initial fire suffered thermal damage to the siding.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
