Quadric and MegaChips Form Partnership to Bring IP Products to ASIC and SoC Market
Collaboration will leverage high-performance quad GPNPU architecture to deliver on-device AI solutions
BURLINGAME, Calif. and OSAKA, Japan, May 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — quadrican innovator in high-performance edge processing platforms for on-device AI, and Megachipsa leading ASIC and SoC services company based in Japan, today announced a strategic partnership to provide ASIC and SoC solutions based on Quadric’s breakthrough AI processor architecture. MegaChips announced an equity investment in Quadric in January 2022 and is also a major investor in a $21M Series B funding round announced in March via their LSI MegaChips UNITED STATES Subsidiary of the company. The round aims to help Quadric release the next version of its processor architecture, improve the performance and scope of the Quadric Software Development Kit (SDK), and deploy IP products to integrate into MegaChips ASICs and SoCs.
Quadric offers the unique ability to manage both neural backbones and classic dynamic data parallel algorithms in a unified architecture, bringing advanced on-device AI capabilities to edge-based applications. The Quadric architecture is the industry’s first General Purpose Neural Processing Unit (GPNPU). Quadric’s architecture provides high machine learning (ML) inference performance, but unlike other neural network accelerators that support a limited number of machine learning graph operators, the Quadric solution also features general purpose signal processing and control capability – combining the best attributes of NPU accelerators with DSP. Quadric GPNPUs can run both neural network graphs and C++ code for signal pre- and post-processing.
While many other edge processing solutions combine high-powered processor clusters or exotic DSPs with application-specific network processing units (NPUs), Quadric’s GPNPU architecture provides the flexibility to accelerate entire application pipeline without the need for a companion processor associated with the NPU.

The MegaChips and Quadric collaboration responds to a growing industry trend in which cloud-based AI, machine learning (ML), and inference are moving to the network edge. Target applications for Quadric’s IP-based MegaChips ASICs and SoCs include autonomous driving (ADAS/LiDAR), industrial robotics, factory automation, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and advanced medical equipment .
