Turning a House into a Home: Community Troop Makeover an Elderly Woman’s Property | KETK.com

TROUP, Texas (KETK) – The Troup community didn’t disappoint this Thanksgiving weekend. About 40 volunteers from East Texas came together to help Clysister Lawson’s home become a home ahead of the winter season.

“I’ve been driving around here for a long time and seeing the blue tarps,” said Sergio Carey, a neighbor from the Troup community who led Ms. Lawson’s makeover project by posting on social media to bring everyone together. .

Hometown Developments, which helped Lawson’s problem, had planned to give him a home improvement within three days. However, workers and volunteers quickly saw more damage to the property than they expected.

“We try to get the ground level in the house, everything collapses. The bricks moved from all the rain. We’re currently trying to level it out and build some robustness, ”Casey said.

Due to the damage, Carey said they are still looking for volunteers for the weekends ahead.

Termite damage, serious foundation problems and rotting wood, to name a few, have been found all around Ms Lawson’s house.

“The damage to the house – it was much worse than we expected. Once we ripped off the siding you had a lot of other issues and the walls collapsed. Some of the walls were just held in place with a few nails, ”said JK Hamilton of Hometown Developments.

Carey and Lawson are both grateful to those who took time out during their Thanksgiving vacation and time with their family to help another East Texan in need. Lawson feels fortunate to have a strong and supportive East Texas community coming together to help work miracles.

“I’m so happy and grateful that these people are helping me, honey. I feel like a burden is on me, ”Lawson said.
