W 7th St closed as Joplin Fire extinguishes house fire

The residence has suffered extensive damage and is on the northwest corner of W 7th and S Porter
House fire in the gray neighborhood of Joplin around 3:40 a.m. Sunday morning. This house suffered extensive damage on the northwest corner of 7th and Porter, although Joplin Fire brought the flames under control in less than 20 minutes. August 21, 2022.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just before 3:40 a.m. Sunday, flames from a residence, 630 S Porter, alerted Joplin Emergency 911.

Joplin Police, METS Ambulance and Joplin Fire Department responded.

Joplin Fire Command said upon arrival, “Heavy fire from the residential structure on the alpha side, we will be ready for attack.”

Everyone got out safe and sound. This residence is on the northwest corner of 7th and Porter, two blocks from McDonalds at 7th and Maiden Lane. West 7th traffic was diverted as fire trucks and personnel took to the street surrounding the home.

When we arrived the active flames were out, but you could see the fire was so intense it melted the siding of the neighboring house to the north. A vehicle was also damaged in the driveway.

The fire was brought under control at 4:01 a.m. less than 20 minutes after the initial call.

Damage to the residence is extensive, Liberty Utilities and Spire Gas have been advised to shut off utilities to the structure.
